Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through the patient's skin at specific points on the body - the needles are inserted to various depths.   Traditional Chinese medicine explains that health is the result of a harmonious balance of the complementary extremes of yin and yang of the life force known as gi or chi. Qi is said to flow through meridians (pathways) in the human body. Through 350 acupuncture points in the body, these meridians and energy flows may be accessed. Illness is said to be the consequence of an imbalance of the forces. If needles are inserted into these points with appropriate combinations it is said that the energy flow can be brought back into proper balance.

In Western societies and several other parts of the world, acupuncture is explained including concepts of neuroscience. Acupuncture points are seen by Western practitioners as places where nerves, muscles and connective tissue can be stimulated. Acupuncture practitioners say that the stimulation increases blood flow while at the same time triggering the activity of our own body's natural painkillers.

Electroacupuncture and Dry Needling available.

Prenatal/Perinatal/Postnatal/Infant Massage

Massage during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum has a long and honourable tradition. Massage is one of the safest and most effective ways to reduce tension, stress, and anxiety. Additional benefits of prenatal massage include decreasing chronic muscle tension, increasing venous and lymphatic circulation, reducing swelling, normalizing blood pressure, headaches and fostering deep breathing. Massage supports the dynamic physical and emotional changes of pregnancy.

Advanced prenatal massage training provides Jeff with a deeper understanding of all aspects of pregnancy. Helping to relieve discomfort and provide emotional support while also providing information and guidance to both mother and father.

Along with Massage Therapy, Acupuncture and Therapeutic Taping can provide comfort and symptom relief during pregnancy.

Please contact Jeff directly to discuss pre/post natal massage support or infant massage.

Therapeutic Taping

Therapeutic taping is becoming an important and useful treatment option as aide for prevention and rehabilitation. It can be used to decrease strain on damaged tissues, facilitate or inhibit muscle activity, increase body awareness, provide mechanical support, reduce swelling and alleviate pain. With this in mind it is easy to see how taping could be helpful in treating neck, shoulder, elbow, knee, or back pain. Taping is also a safe and effective way to help minimize some of the pain and discomfort associated with pregnancy.

Cost: $10 as a stand alone treatment.
$5 if added to a massage or acupuncture treatment.

Cupping

Cupping is used to decrease stagnation(increase circulation). Personally I use it most often over a tight IT band as it can offer relief with less pain. Cupping can be added as part of other treatments at your request free of charge.
